Update 0.2.0

    Finally

Gameplay

0.1.0 Demo was focused on demonstrating the dialogue engine. While under the hood it's pretty versatile - the "game" itself would barely qualify for a tech demo.

Now it at the very least looks like a game.

While I'm still setting up core components for the gameplay - the skeleton and basic coat of paint is ready and is here to stay.

What's new:

  • An actual game - Traverse rooms of concrete in pitch darkness with your flashlight in hand. Scavenge the rooms for stuff that may come in handy, and try to get out.
  • Inventory system - Item preview, actions and some flavour text. While inventory management (like changing item slot) is not present in the demo - the core system is done and ready for action! Flavour text may drop hints at how to progress, and item combining can save your day. Or your character from his eventual starvation.
  • Stats - the most important part of any RPG. While the descriptions may be humorous - those values may just come in handy at the most unexpected moments. Stat checks are hidden to prevent the game from becoming purely number crunching, and most puzzles can have more than one solution depending on your build.
  • Dialogue is back! It's not as colourful as you may remember from the previous demo, but hey - at least you don't have to grind for affinity. Right? ... Right?
    • Developer note: You may have to grind for affinity at some point, but not in this demo.

Exciting stuff!

Here's something to balance out all this excitement: There may be bugs. While I've squashed a lot of them over the past couple of weeks - some may have evaded my gaze. None of them should be gamebreaking, but... You never know. The game is still under active development, so I apologize if you encounter anything technical. I would appreciate any and all reports about your experience with the game.

Another thing that I'm aware of is the slow transition between main game screen and inventory/settings screens. I am aware that this can get annoying really quickly (trust me, I'm annoyed as well), but unfortunately it's caused by a certain technical limitation in the current build. It will be fixed in the future builds, but for now I ask you to bear with it.

ZCRPG Update 0.2.0 will be published in the next couple of days. Stay tuned!
